TOXICITY AND OBESITY- CAUSE AND EFFECT?

The obesity causes are genetics, environment, lifestyle. It is being seen more and more that certain toxins are a disruption of key mechanisms in weight management.

The key biological systems involved are neuro-endocrine-immune systems the mitochondrial energetics and redox status.

Foreign molecules are causing obesity, this includes medications like:
psychotropics in particular, monoamine oxidase[MAO} inhibitors, Lithium, valprate,
Mirtazapine, clozapine, olanzapine, some selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors [SSRIs] such as Fluoxetine, seraline, and paroxetine actually promote weight gain through various mechanisms.

We spend so much money to develop the magic pill to cause weight gain, but are defeating the purpose, because if medications cause weight gain then most certainly envirnmental toxins will do the same.

Why? Because they interfer with metabolism, overload hepatic function [detoxification is made more difficult], and disrupt central weight-control systems [already in the body are certain triggers to keep our weight balanced], they promote insulin resistance, alter circadian-rhythms, increase inflamation, interfere with thyrid function, damage the mitochndria; All of which causes weight gain.

We live in a virtual chemical soup of toxins, our exposure comes through our food supply, our air, the VOC gasses in the homes and offices that surround our bodies every day. In fact Eighty thousand new chemicals have been introduced since the year 1900. Most of these have never been tested for their cumulative effects on living tissue.

We can test for these various toxins but unfortunately they are quickly moved by the body to storage sites like inside of fat cells or in our muscles and bones, or organs; so any test we do on the blood and urine will underestimate the amount of toxins we have circulating and purcolating in our bodies at any given time. The body does this storing to preserve itself. If all those poisons were running around loose in our bodies it would kill us. Now you see why our bodies hang onto the fat it has accumulated, because releasing the fats releases the poisons.

The body is also stressed by Internal toxins, those that arise from bacteria and yeasts in the gut: and leading to increased inflamation and oxidation; including endotoxins, toxic amines, toxic bile, various carcinogenic [it means it produces the atmosphere needed for cancer to begin] substances like putrescine and cadaverine.
***
EWE! What are they?
putrescine-[from Wikpedia]related to cadaverine; both are produced by the breakdown of amino acids in living and dead organisms. The two compounds are largely responsible for the foul odor of putrefying flesh, but also contribute to the odor of such processes as bad breath and bacterial vaginosis.
All of this is what your body manufacturers in response to things like Candidiasis.
cadaverine-[also from Wikipedia] is a foul-smelling molecule produced by protein hydrolysis during putrefaction of animal tissue. It is responsible for the smell of urine and semin.

WHAT CAN WE DO TO DETOX?
>Drink lots of pure water, eat more fiber. This floods and pushes out the toxic stuff and we get rid of it.
>eat garlic every day. It purifies.
>eat more beans, fruits and nuts, the same effect as the first two.
>probiotics can help, even fermented foods, sauerkraut, kefir, Kombucho tea. Make our bowels more healty to get rid of toxins from Candidiasis etc.
>citrus peel, caraway and dill oil contain limonene a toxin-fighter
>eat lots of fresh whole vegetables, preferably locally grown and non-GM.
>Sweat a lot, it rids the body of toxins. Exercise and saunas work well for this.

PREVENTION
>eat cruciferous veggies day, brocolli, cauliflower, etc. getting healthy really helps
>juice from celery, carrots, cilantro, beets, parsley, ginger
>take detox teas with burdock root, dandilon root, ginger, licorice, sasparilla, cardomom seed, cinnamon bark and other herbs
>detox the Liver every few months.

REDUCE EXPOSURE
>x-rays, microwaves, dust and allergans, any aluminum, cigarette smoke, automobile exhaust.
>Air out your dry cleaning before wearing
>have houseplants to clean your air
>filter your air with HEPA filters

GET TESTED
>for reduced Glutathine levels
>hidden infections [Lyme, H.Pylori, etc.]
>heavy metals [hair analysis]
>mold and spore antibodies
>chemical antibodies

Patient, Heal thyself!

The story of Lorenzo's oil was told in a movie, of the same name. essentially a family watched their first son die of Adrenoleucodystrophy (ALD), when they realized their second son was at risk the parents went to work to find out about the disease and got a group of scientists involved, they found a 'cure' and Lorenzo not only survived but is now 25 years old and lives in Washington. Eighteen years ago he was diagnosed with an incurable disease and given less than two years to live.

The point is, if you don't want to accept a Death sentence from your doctor, find out how to heal yourself. Find out first why you have whatever disease they say you have, Then find out how to get healthy.

This is what I've been doing while I'm working to reverse Diabetes. I can't say I've actually found the exact cause but while I look I'm using a shotgun approach to be as healthy as I can get.

I am eating a healthy diet, in which I've kept out as many pollutants, preservatives, additives, pesticides, and herbicides as I can. I do everything I can to avoid genetically modified, processed or transported foods as possible. I believe if I eat locally grown, whole fresh foods cooked as little as possible I'm way ahead of the game.

Since our soils are depleted I also take certain supplements like minerals and enzymes to augment my food nutritionally, this way I can get all the building blocks of good health from what I ingest.

Still I'm on the prowl for the exact cause of Diabetes so I can just say good by to it.

My quest is taking me to what seems far afield areas of research, but who knows when I'll find the key? I found once that Diabetics tend to have highly acidic bodies so I de-acidified mine with Alkalizing foods and CellPower™, which I still take for it's many healthy benefits, in addition o it keeping me in a alkaline condition.

I found that many Diabetics have springboarded from a diet high in High Fructose Corn Syrup to Diabetes so I have eliminated that from my life. I read that MSG caused people to gain weight, so I dropped that. I also discovered that the bleaching agent[Alloxan] in White flour is another cause of Diabetes, so I never eat any white flour. Gluten [see any grain] has been implicated in allergies and other problems, so I avoid all breads and flour products.

I get a multitude of newsletters so I can keep abreast of all news of research breakthroughs. I may not discover the Diabetes oil but it won't be from lack of trying.

POISON IN OUR FOOD, ARE WE PUTTING IT IN?

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the kitchen another poison raises it's nasty cancer-causing head. Scientists have found a poison that is prevalent in the American diet. Did the purveyors of Aspartame, those life-span-regulators, come up with a new way to kill us? Did we always have this poison, and are just now discovering how dangerous it is? Swedish scientists have discovered that acrylamide a cancer-causing chemical found in many American products, and nobody knows how it gets there."

At any rate researchers have found the highest concentrations of the cancer-causing Acrylamides in; well, you probably already know the answer here, Fast-food French Fries [there are 39 to 72 of acrylamides per serving micrograms]. Is it the trans fats again? Is it whatever chemical they are now using to bind the faked potato bits to each other when they mold the fries to uniform size and shape? No, It's from Heating Especially the excessively high heats involved in frying/roasting our foods. Our benevolent governmental EPA says that the acrylamides, which are sometimes used in water purification [now isn't THAT a funny joke?] are: in 8oz. of Water, approximately a 'safe' 0.12. Acrylamides in one serving of French fries are 300 TIMES THE 'SAFE' LIMITS!!!!

Here are some more acrylamide readings:
Boiled Potatoes, 4 oz. 3 *Old El Paso Taco Shells, 3, 1.1oz. 1 *Ore Ida French Fries (from package), 3 oz. 5 *Ore Ida French Fries (baked), 3 oz. 28 *Honey Nut Cheerios, 1 oz. 6 *Cheerios, 1 oz. 7 *Tostitos Tortilla Chips, 1 oz. 3 *Fritos Corn Chips, 1 oz. 11 *Pringles Potato Crisps, 1 oz. 25 *Wendy's French Fries, Biggie, 5.5 oz. 39
*KFC Potato Wedges, Jumbo, 6.2 oz. (est.) 52 *Burger King French Fries, large, 5.5 oz. 57 *McDonald's French Fries, large, 6 oz. 72......
So, how did this happen? how are these poisons getting into our food supply?

Apparently it is caused by cooking one's foods with high heats. So, first in manufacturing our lovely processed foods large quantities of foods are superheated in huge vats, combined with other ingredients and then spit out in small packages, carted to our kitchens or to fast food restaurants to be then re-cooked for our tables. Now they are laden with all the additives and fake colorings and fake flavors AND Acrylamides. We won't even go into whatever pesticides, herbacides and other -cides are remnanted in our foods in addition. We eat a conglomeration of genetically modified foods*, overly-cooked foods [either at home or a restaurant], processed foods, fast foods and chemically 'enhanced' foods. Is it any wonder we are sick?

*********************explanation*********************
Genetically modified--plants that are 'made' in a laboratory to accommodate some need a scientist might decide we have, rendering it no longer a food that our body recognizes as something it can digest and use, and is probably considered as a pollutant to fight against instead [this fighting is also called an allergy] instead.
*********************end explanation******************

What is the answer to this? First I want to talk about one solution and why it is a good idea: raw foods. First: if a food is cooked the enzymes essential to health are killed.
Why do we need enzymes?

(1)
Enzymes are the spark of life -- they run your entire body. You couldn't digest or absorb food, walk, talk, or even breathe without them. Enzymes are living substances that must be activated by a certain pH range, a certain temperature range, moisture, and coenzymes (vitamins and minerals).
Vitamins and minerals are familiar to most people, but they don't realize that vitamins aren't activated until they join enzymes. You can swallow pounds of vitamins and minerals but without enzymes, nothing works and you're wasting your money. An "enzyme" acts in certain ways in the body to do specific jobs such as
1. Digest food
2. Break down toxins
3. Cleanse the blood
4. Strengthen the immune system
5. Build protein into muscle
6. Eliminate carbon dioxide from the lungs, and
7. Reduce stress on the pancreas and other vital organs.
Enzymes are the workers in your body -- they carry out every chemical reaction. To have a healthy body you need both workers (enzymes) and building materials. The building materials are proteins (amino acids), minerals, and vitamins. All of these are necessary to build a healthy body. Trying to function without all the necessary enzymes is like trying to build a house all by yourself in one day.

Te very best way to get the maximum enzymatic action from your foods is to eat raw fresh foods and chew them well. Please read: enzymes and
Mastication.

Now back to acrylamides. While eating a totally raw diet seems like the way to go, few people are actually able to keep it up for long. And if they don't; how is the health affected? There is good news...

(2)
Is Cooked Food Poison?
The cooking = toxicity = disease paradigm. One of the most common ideas in raw-food circles is that most diseases are due to toxemia, and that one cannot be truly healthy without discontinuing what is believed to be one of the major sources of such internal toxemia: cooked food, even if such food is unprocessed in any other respect except by heat.
While it certainly appears true that many people experience (sometimes impressive) improvements when first coming to raw food, it also appears that long-time pure raw-foodists who have maintained the diet for many years are rare. Anecdotal evidence also suggests (no peer-reviewed research is available on the issue, to our knowledge) that those eating 100% raw foods do not appear to be any healthier on average than people eating predominantly raw, and that raw diets are not the only diets that may work.
... knowledge available indicates eating at least partially raw is important.
The subject is not black-and-white.

So we process actual foods with heat and pour on the chemicals, and make them non-foods, then people buy these processed foods and cook them again, making more poison- acrylamide. So foods are ruined by heating and adding chemicals, then are heated again and more poisons are included with every bite of that nasty stuff we are accustomed to referring to as food.

I have read that eating a diet at least 1/3 raw is very healthy, and if you cook your food; to cook it slowly on low heat to prevent the pesky acrylamides.

I am eating as pure a diet as I possibly can, whole fresh, locally grown foods, lo-carb, 1/3 raw, some fermented foods, and I cook mine on as low a temp as I can to heat it through. I also continue to take the following which are really helping me to heal:

ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS,OMEGAS, SATURATED FATS

Why do "healthy" people die of heart attacks?
(1)
... the culprit is a fatty acid!
...The killer fatty acid is called non-esterified fatty acid, or NEFA for short; if you consume too many omega-6 fats and not enough omega-3 fats, you can end up with all sorts of health problems. But now we know there's a more immediate problem with omega-6 fats: when they're converted to too much NEFA, it can result in a sudden heart attack!...
Taking carnitine and fish oil can stop NEFA and save your life. But there are so many more things you can do... There are safe, natural, inexpensive ways to lower your triclycerides, fibrinogen, homocysteine, and more...You can get these omega-3s by eating walnuts, flaxseeds, leaf lettuce, and cold-water fish. Be careful with the fish, though. Much of it is tainted with mercury and PCBs. The safest bet is to eat wild salmon from Alaska.

After all, even the American Heart Association agrees that Omega 3 fatty acids can help...

Promote healthy heart functions...
Maintain healthy cholesterol levels...
Keep your blood pressure right where it's supposed to be...
Support a healthy cardiovascular system...

On a related note: a blog entry on how to decrease blood viscosity thinning blood
(2)
To thin the blood naturally making blood pressure much less a problem, and blood lipids not so much of a problem *Curry powder *Cayenne pepper *Ginger*Paprika *Thyme *Cinnamon *Dill *Oregano *Turmeric *Licorice *Peppermint.
Cayenne and cinnamon help to thin the blood and heat us up too, but you could try this instead:Chocolate and turmeric. Not since the love story of Shah Jahan and his beloved Mumtal, for whom he constructed the Taj Mahal, has such an intriguing union come out of India. Before you quickly dismiss it as too strange for your taste buds, consider this: India boasts a much lower-than-average incidence of age-related memory decline, and health experts are attributing it to the abundant use of turmeric in their cuisine. The health benefits don’t stop at the top, either. Trickling all the way down to the very tips of your toes, fragrant turmeric promotes healthy circulation and antioxidant protection for every one of the cells, while simultaneously warming and soothing the joints. With such compelling facts as these, the wise course for each one of us is to look for creative ways to incorporate more of it into the diet.
This month we’re taking the chill out of winter by turning up the heat on hot cocoa, In the South American tradition of mixing the cacao bean with hot spices.

Deficiencies in EFAs can lead to reduced growth, a scaly rash called dermatitis, infertility, and lack of ability to fight infection and heal wounds. Lack of omega-6 fatty acids, however, is extremely rare in diets of those living in certain Western countries, particularly the United States, as well as Israel. In fact, North American and Israeli diets tend to have too much omega-6, particularly in relation to omega-3 fatty acids. This imbalance contributes to long-term diseases such as heart disease, cancer, asthma, arthritis, and depression. A healthy diet should consist of roughly one omega-3 fatty acids to four omega-6 fatty acids. A typical American diet, however, tends to contain 11 to 30 times more omega-6 than omega-3 fatty acids.
In contrast, a Mediterranean diet is made up of a healthier and more appropriate balance between omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. The Mediterranean diet includes a generous amount of whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, olive oil, and garlic; plus, there is little meat, which is high in omega-6 fatty acids.
There are several different types of omega-6 fatty acids. Most omega-6 fatty acids are consumed in the diet from vegetable oils as linoleic acid (LA; be careful not to confuse this with alpha-linolenic acid [ALA] which is an omega-3 fatty acid). Linoleic acid is converted to gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) in the body and then further broken down to arachidonic acid (AA). AA can also be consumed directly from meat, and GLA can be ingested from several plant-based oils including evening primrose oil (EPO), borage oil, and black currant seed oil.

A better balance of Omega-3 and Omega-6 should be four[even five]-to-one
Currently in our modern diets:
(4)
It is estimated that in the current average western diet this ratio lies at 20 'Omega 6' :1 'Omega 3' or five times more Omega 6 than there should be. The proportion of Omega 6 is provided in the form of linoleic acid from cooking oils and vegetable margarine usually made from safflower, sunflower, corn or soyabeans. This is not to say that we all eat too much Omega 6 - many people are believed to be deficient in Omega 6, especially if they have not converted to using vegetable oils or margarine instead of the dairy alternatives.* see note below

*NOTE: I do not recommend the use of any cooking oils, if you must use an oil, use coconut oil, all others become toxic when heated, THAT INCLUDES OLIVE OIL, use only uncooked olive oils. [actually olive oil and garlic on salad is very healthy]

Too much animal fats, polyunsaturated and trans fats lead to illnesses that doctors prescribe drugs for, which often make the situation so much worse.

excessive levels of Omega 3 may reduce blood clotting time
excessive levels of Omega 6 increases the risk of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD).

So moderation and balance is Key! Eat healthy, raw locally grown whole fods and non-medicated range-fed meats, lots of healthy pure water and you will be so healthy!

FATS- THE LIE-THE TRUTH

I was watching a show on BBC where a cross and kind of nasty older lady was castigating a teenager for the fat intake she regularly ingested. I have to agree that fast foods are not healthy, they are full of High Fructose Corn Syrup, MSG, White flour and trans fats... It wasn't those things the woman was railing at. It was the saturated fats.

First, I'm against backing people into a corner and trying to humiliating them into making changes. Then there is the wealth of misinformation broadcasted.

Fat is bad: BAD, BAD,BAD right? And it fills your arteries with that same white badity badness that you see in a frying pan after it cools off, Right? Whoa there pardner, that may not be the whole story.

(1)
Saturated fats from animal and vegetable sources provide a concentrated source of energy in the diet; they also provide the building blocks for cell membranes and a variety of hormones and hormonelike substances. Fats as part of a meal slow down absorption so that we can go longer without feeling hungry. In addition, they act as carriers for important fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. Dietary fats are needed for the conversion of carotene to vitamin A, for mineral absorption and for a host of other processes.

(2)
No offense, but you have a fat head! About two-thirds of your brain is composed of fats. But not just any kind.
Your brain cells require very specialized fats – the same ones that built the brains of your prehistoric ancestors and enabled them to learn and evolve at such a fast rate. These same fats are even now being incorporated into the very structure of your brain.
Membranes – the Working Surface of Your Brain is Made from Fatty Acids
The membranes of neurons – the specialized brain cells that communicate with each other – are composed of a thin double-layer of fatty acid molecules. Fatty acids are what dietary fats are composed of. When you digest the fat in your food, it is broken down into fatty acid molecules of various lengths. Your brain then uses these for raw materials to assemble the special types of fat it incorporates into its cell membranes.
Passing through a cell's membrane into its cell's interior are oxygen, glucose (blood sugar), and the micronutrients the cell needs to function. Metabolic waste products must exit, so the cell won't be impaired by its own pollution.
Myelin, the protective sheath that covers communicating neurons, is composed of 30% protein and 70% fat. One of the most common fatty acids in myelin is oleic acid, which is also the most abundant fatty acid in human milk and in our diet.
Monosaturated oleic acid is the main component of olive oil as well as the oils from almonds, pecans, macadamias, peanuts, and avocados.

(1)
Politically Correct Nutrition is based on the assumption that we should reduce our intake of fats, particularly saturated fats from animal sources. Fats from animal sources also contain cholesterol, presented as the twin villain of the civilized diet.

The Lipid Hypothesis
The theory—called the lipid hypothesis—that there is a direct relationship between the amount of saturated fat and cholesterol in the diet and the incidence of coronary heart disease was proposed by a researcher named Ancel Keys in the late 1950’s. Numerous subsequent studies have questioned his data and conclusions. Nevertheless, Keys’ articles received far more publicity than those presenting alternate views. The vegetable oil and food processing industries, the main beneficiaries of any research that found fault with competing traditional foods, began promoting and funding further research designed to support the lipid hypothesis.
The most well-known advocate of the lowfat diet was Nathan Pritikin. Actually, Pritikin advocated elimination of sugar, white flour and all processed foods from the diet and recommended the use of fresh raw foods, whole grains and a strenuous exercise program; but it was the lowfat aspects of his regime that received the most attention in the media. Adherents found that they lost weight and that their blood cholesterol levels and blood pressure declined. The success of the Pritikin diet was probably due to a number of factors having nothing to do with reduction in dietary fat—weight loss alone, for example, will precipitate a reduction in blood cholesterol levels—but Pritikin soon found that the fat-free diet presented many problems, not the least of which was the fact that people just could not stay on it. Those who possessed enough will power to remain fat-free for any length of time developed a variety of health problems including low energy, difficulty in concentration, depression, weight gain and mineral deficiencies. Pritikin may have saved himself from heart disease but his lowfat diet did not spare him from cancer. He died, in the prime of life, of suicide when he realized that his Spartan regime was not curing his leukemia. We shouldn’t have to die of either heart disease or cancer—or consume a diet that makes us depressed.

WELL SO MUCH FOR THAT. Let's see; eating a healthy balanced diet of fresh whole foods helps us to lose weight and feel great, Where's the downside? Soon I'll write on the balances between the Omega 3 essential fatty acids and Omega-6.

Inside beauty

(1)
Hair, Skin & Nails
Beauty Starts From Within
Brrrr! The winter season with its cold and dry weather can mean chapped lips, dry skin, cracked nails and brittle hair. Just because you’re not out in the sun as much these days doesn’t mean you can relax when it comes to maintaining a healthy beauty regimen.
Here’s a great tip…beautiful hair, skin and nails starts from the inside out. You can apply lotion and lip balm all day long, but unless you have the right nutrition you’ll always fight a loosing battle.
What goes into your body reflects like a mirror on the outside. Dehydration and poor food choices leave your body without the tools it needs to build collagen, strengthen connective tissues and repair itself with a ready supply of antioxidants.
Antioxidants
Eating antioxidant foods such as dark berries and citrus fruits can help minimize free radical damage caused by oxidation due to ordinary metabolic processes of the body and the environment such as, exercise, exposure to the environment, including pollution and sunlight and just plain aging.
Minerals
A diet with plenty of silica, calcium and iron promotes nail strength, supports vibrant hair and reduces breakage. Mineral-rich foods include sea vegetables, oats, whole grains, low-fat dairy and eggs. Mineral-rich botanicals include horsetail and gotu kola.
Hydration
Your body requires at least 8-10 glasses of purified water per day to cleanse and replenish cells; this is especially true if you work in an environment with air-conditioning or dry heat.
Sleep
Aim for a minimum of eights hours of sleep each night. Adequate sleep is necessary for skin and tissue repair and lessens the appearance of bags and dark circles under the eyes.

Getting a fresh and rejuvenated appearance this holiday can be simple, just remember that beauty starts from within.

Winter Workouts at Home

Just moving around is so much harder in winter, but our bodies can't just hibernate like bears do, so we must workout indoors to keep our blood sugar levels lowered and our bodies toned and running smoothly. Once again, I have searched the web to find yet anither boon for those who want to improve their health even thought they have Diabetes. I hope this will help you all out there in cyberland.

(1)

Winter Workouts at Home
Six Indoor Exercises to Strengthen Your Core

When chilly winter weather keeps you inside, you still have plenty of options for exercise. Take advantage of this season to strengthen your core muscles. You won’t need a lot of fancy (or expensive) gear or equipment. There are many types of exercises you can do that work out your muscles by working against gravity. For instance, Pilates-based exercises use your own weight for resistance and can easily be done at home or wherever you travel. Plus, working out your core throughout the winter will help you maintain your strength and flexibility, so when you return to outdoor activities in the spring, you'll avoid injury. Be sure to check with a health care professional before beginning, or making significant changes to, an exercise program.
Try the six exercises below as a daily workout. Repeat this routine a couple of times each week. You can mix in cardiovascular workouts (walking on a treadmill or inside at the mall) on alternate days.
Strengthen Your Core

~Abdominals
I. Leg Raises
Lie on your back with your legs extended straight up.
Rest your arms by your sides or underneath your buttocks.
Keeping your lower back on the floor, lower your legs slowly to a 45-degree angle, then return your legs to the starting position for a count of five seconds.
If you’re a beginner, do one set of eight to 10 repetitions.
If you're more experienced, do two to three sets of eight to 10 repetitions each.
~II. Torso Twist
Lie on your back with your hips and knees bent at a 90-degree angle.
Place your hands behind your head, with your elbows on the floor.
Bring your right elbow toward your left knee, and extend your right leg at the same time. You should be bending from the waist with your left elbow on the ground.
Hold for one second, and then return to the starting position. Complete the set on one side before you go to the other side.
If you’re a beginner, do one set of eight to 10 repetitions.
If you're more experienced, do two to three sets of eight to 10 repetitions each.
Back Muscles

~III. Flat Back Extension
Lie facedown on the floor with your hands at your sides, next to your hips.
Not using your arms, slowly raise your shoulders and chest off the floor about four to six inches.
Hold for one second, keeping your lower body relaxed and your head in line with your upper body.
If you’re a beginner, do one set of eight to 10 repetitions.
If you're more experienced, do two to three sets of eight to 10 repetitions.
~IV. Kneeling Back Extensions (Cat-Camel)
Start on your hands and knees with your weight squarely over your wrists and knees.
Round your back, tucking your chin to your chest and your hips under.

It's a start

My daughter, Meredyth Warren from Long Beach, California, the pharmacist's assistant who is in college to be a pharmacist and doesn't believe in Natural Medicine wrote this:

Fatal Drug Advertising:
The Lessons of Vioxx

In 2000, pharmaceutical giant Merck spent $160 million on DTC (direct-to-consumer) advertising for its newly approved prescription arthritis drug Vioxx. That figure tops the expenditures of Pepsi and Budweiser each that year to promote their top products (National Institute for Healthcare Management 5). This advertising blitz started just months after the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) had approved Vioxx (Abramson 23). Advertising works. By the end of 2000, Vioxx sales reached $1.5 billion (National Institute for Healthcare Management 2). In the ensuing few years, troubling evidence regarding the severe and potentially fatal side-effects of Vioxx began to emerge, including studies showing that Vioxx might double the chances of heart attacks and or strokes (Abramson 35). Merck continued to advertise Vioxx to everyone, even after being reprimanded more than once by the FDA for not including a fair representation of this important information in their ads (Abramson 32). Merck eventually discontinued sales of Vioxx voluntarily in 2004(Burke 1753). This action came too late for many consumers. As noted by healthcare ethicist Leonard J. Weber, by the time that Vioxx was pulled, there were already millions of people taking it at serious risk to their health (2). While the exact number of patients adversely affected by Vioxx is still unknown, in a study of drugs belonging to the same family as Vioxx (known as COX-2 inhibitors) it was concluded by Dr. Campen, et al. that the drug Vioxx alone could have been responsible for over 100,000 serious heart attacks and strokes in the few years it was on the market (479). If the FDA continues to allow drug companies to advertise their prescription products to consumers, it is obvious that changes in policy are necessary in order to protect the public. The Vioxx debacle clearly shows the glaring inadequacies in the current FDA regulations of DTC prescription drug advertising.
Once a drug has been approved by the FDA, no waiting period currently exists to prevent that drug from being marketed to consumers immediately. This proved to be especially problematic in the case of Vioxx. In an article this year for Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, authors Bell and Kravitz conclude that DTC advertising can be most dangerous when it involves newly approved drugs that have not had time enough on the market to prove themselves. Often, the risks of a new drug aren’t apparent until it has been given to enough people to evaluate its dangers (361). They go on to propose that a newly approved prescription drug should be given 2 years to prove itself as both effective and safe before it is marketed to consumers. This waiting period would allow physicians some time to become more familiar with the drug and its limitations when compared to other therapies that are already available (361). Mass marketing of Vioxx before its risks and limitations could be assessed, caused unnecessary injury and death. As Dr. John Abramson points out, Vioxx was prescribed to far too many people. The drug should have been limited to arthritic patients on steroids, who had no history of cardiovascular disease, and who had exhibited adverse stomach problems while taking NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as Naproxen (36). This is a far cry from what actually happened in the Vioxx case. Patients were asking for Vioxx, and being prescribed it, for any type of ache and pain imaginable. The pharmaceutical industry may complain that a two year moratorium on DTC after the drug is approved is an unfair burden, but as Drs. Bell and Kravitz point out, a waiting period may be advantageous for the drug industry as well. “A [2 year] moratorium reduces the inherent financial liabilities that accompany the mass adoption of understudied new drugs“(361). Merck may just agree in light of the ongoing court battles it faces because of Vioxx. As Todd Zwillich reports in an article for The Lancet, Merck has reserved $675 million to fight lawsuits resulting from Vioxx that could lead eventually to losses in the billions of dollars (1673).
DTC marketing of prescription drugs began a decade ago, when the FDA relaxed its restrictions (Nelson 25). At that time, the FDA thought that the restrictions in place would be sufficient to protect the public. The FDA would have the power of regulatory letters to admonish companies running misleading ads, and force them to pull such ads from the airwaves. However, in a report by the GAO (U.S. Government Accountability Office), it was noted that the FDA’s method of admonishing drug companies for false or misleading advertising fell far short of what was necessary to protect the public (2). The letters, which are meant to force companies to comply with regulations, can do nothing more than force the company to pull the ad that violates FDA regulations. The GAO found that it took the FDA an average of 8 months to issue such a letter. This was too late in most cases to stop the ad in question. The letters also couldn’t prevent the same company from running similar and just as misleading ads in the future (7). Vioxx is a good example of how little power the FDA‘s regulatory letters have. According to Dr. John Abramson, the FDA sent two regulatory letters to Merck regarding their Vioxx ads. The first letter was issued in 2000 and accused Merck of putting out ads that misrepresented Vioxx, namely that Merck’s ads didn’t give sufficient weight to evidence that the drug could have potentially dangerous cardiovascular side effects. The second, in 2001, came after a press release entitled “Merck Confirms Cardiovascular Safety Profile of Vioxx”. The FDA was particularly upset with Merck for putting out this press release considering that they had already warned the company the previous year about their misleading ads (36). Merck‘s response was to continue to aggressively push Vioxx on unsuspecting consumers even in the face of repeated admonishments by the FDA, and with the knowledge that their product could possibly cause undue harm. The FDA needs better tools at its disposal to deal with DTC ads that mislead consumers. The FDA should have the ability adequately deal with drug companies that refuse to follow the law. Instead of issuing hollow warnings, a drug company in violation of FDA rules could be warned once, then be imposed monetary fines if they continued to run false or misleading advertisements for their products.
Since the FDA changed its guidelines in 1997, DTC advertising has exploded. According to the GAO, over $4 billion was spent in 2005 by drug companies in DTC advertising alone (5). Consumers are being bombarded daily by radio and television ads that encourage them to “ask their Doctor” if a particular drug is “right for them”. There is no question that these ads work. What can be questioned, however, is whether there are sufficient safeguards in place to protect the public from undue harm resulting from the drugs that these ads are touting. The drug companies may cry foul if told that they cannot advertise their newly approved drugs to everyone with a television or radio, but the lessons of Vioxx should not be ignored. No drug should be considered safe enough to be advertised to the masses until it has been on the market long enough to assess its true risks. Then, once DTC advertising of a new drug starts, the FDA needs to act swiftly and strongly to curtail misleading ads so as to assure the safety of the American public.

Colon Health -quoted

A poorly functioning colon can case sleeplessness, headaches, and constant fatigue among many other symptoms, what is happening is that your body is being poisoned. The following is What Everyone Needs To Know About Colon Health & How To Avoid The #3 Killer - Colorectal Cancer
By: Greg CiolaSource: http://www.healthtruthrevealed.com
This is probably the most comprehensive and concise explanation I've ever seen.

(1)
Your body’s ability to eliminate toxins and wastes determines your entire state of health. Did you know that every cell, organ, and system in your body is designed to bring in nutrition and fuel to survive, and eliminate waste when it’s done? A majority of this waste eventually ends up in your colon. While discussing the body’s intestinal system is not generally a topic people feel comfortable sharing with others, it’s one that cannot be ignored if you want to remain healthy or restore lost health.

The simple truth is that the human body was not designed to handle an overwhelming assault of fried, processed, packaged, microwaved or genetically modified foods. It also can’t handle large amounts of meat, pasteurized and homogenized dairy products, white flour, refined sugar, hydrogenated fats, soda, candy, cakes, artificial colors, artificial flavors, artificial sweeteners, preservatives, pesticides, and a host of other ingestible products. All of these items can have a negative effect on your intestinal system and your health over time.

A healthy functioning gastrointestinal system is absolutely critical for good health. If your digestive system is not working perfectly it’s only a matter of time before you go back to the dust of the earth just as the scriptures proclaim. Proper digestion is essential to release the nutrients contained within our foods so they can be absorbed into the bloodstream and nourish the body’s cells with life. Proper elimination of metabolic wastes is also essential to keep the system clean and free of morbid wastes. Any malfunction in the digestive process can ultimately lead to a cellular malfunction, which given enough time, can lead to a complete system malfunction.

The human body is equipped with five major filtering/processing systems and elimination routes that are designed to expel wastes, process nutrients, regulate hormones, and keep the body functioning in a normal, healthy state. They are the gastrointestinal system (colon), liver, kidneys, skin, and lymphatic system. The gastrointestinal system, however, is probably the most important of the five because in many cases, without a healthy gastrointestinal system you are almost guaranteed that the other four bodily systems will be in serious trouble. Although we could spend a great deal of time focusing on each bodily system and its importance to our health, this particular article will focus on the role your intestinal system plays in health, and how you can keep it functioning optimally.

Here Are Some Interesting Facts About Colon Health

Colorectal cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in the U.S. Over 50,000 Americans die each year from this type of cancer. In men it ranks third in frequency behind lung and prostate cancer, and third in frequency behind lung and breast cancer in women. Colorectal cancer accounts for about 10% of all new cases of cancer each year and approximately 10% of all cancer deaths.

Experts estimate that over 20% of middle-age and older adults may have one or more colon polyps. Up to one in five Americans (approximately 60 million) has irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). IBS accounts for more than 1 out every 10 doctor visits. Some health experts have stated that every American will develop some type of colon disease, polyp, tumor, or colon cancer in their lifetime.

If you suffer from any of the following symptoms for an extended period of time you have reasons to be concerned.

• Diarrhea or constipation
• Rectal bleeding or blood in the stool
• Stools that are smaller in width than usual
• Abdominal gas and discomfort
• Frequent gas pains
• A feeling that the bowel never completely empties
• Unexplained weight loss
• Constant tiredness
• Unexplained anemia

Any one of these symptoms could indicate an intestinal disorder that needs attention. It could also be a sign of cancer.

The Role Of Flora & Intestinal Health

More and more health conscious consumers are becoming aware of the importance of intestinal flora when it comes to digestive health. Intestinal flora are colonies of microscopic bacteria found in both the small and large intestine. Nutritional supplements and foods that support the body’s flora are referred to as probiotics. The word probiotic actually has an interesting meaning. “Pro” means to be in favor of something. “Bio” is a prefix meaning life. When the two are put together into the word probiotic, it means to be in favor of life.

Probiotics are life giving aerobic bacteria that serve as the intestinal system’s clean-up crew. The definition of “aerobic” is anything that pertains to, or is caused by the presence of oxygen. Anything anaerobic either lacks oxygen or causes the destruction of oxygen. With probiotics we are talking about life-giving oxygen producing bacteria.

Everyone knows that oxygen is the most critical element for life. Every cell of the body requires oxygen to survive. Without oxygen we would be dead. Oxygen is also nature’s most effective sterilizer and deodorizer. What few realize is that oxygen generated by probiotics is what keeps your intestinal system disinfected and working properly. Without a healthy supply of flora, your health will spiral quickly downward. CellPower™ just happens to give each and every cell in our bodies a boost of oxygen.

A healthy intestinal system contains hundreds of different strains of friendly aerobic bacteria such as acidophilus, bifidus, plantarum, and bulgaricus to name a few, which release an abundance of nascent oxygen (hydrogen peroxide) to keep the intestinal system clean and anaerobic bacteria in check. In addition, flora supports the body’s immune system by thwarting off harmful bacteria and it supports the immune system’s front line defenders, such as your T-cells and natural killer cells. The whole battle of good and bad bacteria that determines health or sickness takes place primarily in your intestinal system. This is why proper digestion, waste removal, and flora balance is so critical when it comes to staying healthy or restoring lost health. Another function of flora is to synthesize certain nutrients such as vitamin K, biotin, and pantothentic acid. Flora can also produce almost all the B vitamins, including niacin, B6, B12, and folic acid, as well as make one B vitamin into another. CellPower™ has the best and safest antibiotic and anti-fungal properties, Silver coilloidals.

According to renowned health expert Dr. Robert O. Young in his book The pH Miracle:

“In a healthy, balanced human digestive system, you’d expect to find three to four pounds of probiotics. Unfortunately, I estimate that most people have less than 25% of the normal amount. Eating animal products and processed foods, ingesting chemicals, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, overeating, and excess stress of all types disrupt and weaken the probiotic colonies and compromise digestion. That, in turn, allows the overgrowth of symptom-causing microforms and all the problems that come along for the ride.” CellPower™ naturally adjusts the ph of the body to Slightly Alkaline.

If you’re like many, you’ve probably overindulged in far too many foods you know you shouldn’t have eaten. Over time, if not eliminated from the body, these foods can impact the colon and eventually ferment, putrefy, and stick to your colon wall like Plaster of Paris. There is only so much abuse your body can handle before it eventually becomes intoxicated and shuts down. One of the first signs of your health going down hill begins with gastrointestinal problems, which by the way are the number one complaint to doctors. If intestinal waste is not fully excreted from the body, over time it can wreak havoc on your health and negatively impact your flora, by causing it to literally suffocate from the overload. Once the body’s aerobic bacteria starts dying off, anaerobic bacteria will get the upper hand and things will start to deteriorate rapidly. It’s like knocking over a domino.

Flora’s Worst Enemy – ANTIOBIOTICS!

In light of the fact that the word probiotic means to be in favor of life, antibiotic has the exact opposite meaning. “Anti” means to be against. In other words, antibiotics are counterproductive to life itself. The main problem with antibiotics is that they cannot distinguish between good aerobic bacteria and unwanted anaerobic bacteria. Antibiotics kill off everything. Excessive use of antibiotics will literally destroy your health and wipe out your immune system.

If life and health are important to you, then you will do everything possible to avoid antibiotics, unless they are absolutely necessary to overcome a stubborn infection or keep you alive during a health crisis. If you’ve ever subjected your body to antibiotics it is imperative that you do an intestinal detox and take a round of probiotics. Many of the health problems people are enduring today can be directly attributed to the overuse of antibiotics.

Sadly, in their lack of understanding on how the human body functions, doctors are prescribing antibiotics like they’re candy. How many people run to the doctor at the sign of the first sniffle to get on a cycle of antibiotics, thinking it will do their body good? We need to question medical intervention a little further before putting things into our body that can potentially harm it. There are plenty of safe, natural alternatives that can do wonders for the body without harming your body’s delicate bacterial balance. Try the safe alternative to antibiotics:CellPower™.

When the body’s intestinal flora diminishes or dies off and the intestinal system is impacted with excess wastes and sludge, you’re more than likely on a slow, steady, downward trend toward serious health complications. As the intestinal system continues to degenerate, unwanted metabolic wastes can be absorbed through the colon wall and into the bloodstream flooding the body with free radicals and carcinogens. At this point, it’s now up to the kidneys, liver and lymphatic system to filter out this mess. But these vital systems can only handle so much abuse before they become overwhelmed and exhibit signs of trouble. Additionally, since many people live sedentary lives, they sweat very little thus denying themselves another powerful waste eliminator. In essence, a malfunctioning intestinal system can eventually lead to a complete system malfunction if not corrected.

Beware Of Parasites & Other Microorganisms

Another often overlooked problem with a colon that is impacted with putrefying, fermenting wastes and inadequate healthy flora is that it can become a breeding ground for unwanted microorganisms, such as parasites, viruses, fungus, flukes, and of course, anaerobic bacteria. These microorganisms fester in this mess as a source of food because your body didn’t do the job.

A perfect analogy of what can happen internally is if you were to leave a pile of dirty dishes in the sink with food crumbs and debris lying around your house for an extended period of time. What do you think would happen? Your home will be invaded with cockroaches, ants, and other microscopic scavengers. Similar things take place in the human body when unwanted wastes and debris are lying around for extended periods of time without being properly eliminated. It’s time we started putting the same kind of focus on internal cleanliness as we do on external cleanliness.

Over the last decade many alternative doctors and nutritionists have been treating parasitic problems in humans, and have linked them directly to a vast array of ailments. Some health researchers estimate that over 90% of the population has parasites residing in their body. Usually we only associate harmful microorganisms with third world countries where the water and food is not always safe. Better think again! Health endangering scavengers could be feeding on, and breeding in, your impacted metabolic waste.

Mucus Doesn’t Only Come From Your Lungs & Nose

To compound the intestinal assault, harmful heavy metals and toxins consumed from your diet force the body into another serious protective reaction. The body will create a mucus film that goes from the tongue straight throughout the intestines in order to stop toxins from making their way into the bloodstream. People with a thick mucus coating on their intestines usually have a noticeable white film on their tongues. As more and more toxins come into the body, more mucus will be produced. Over time, this mucus film can become thicker and harder, and eventually wreak havoc within the intestines.

When digestion isn’t working properly, and food and wastes aren’t being eliminated, you run the risk of autointoxication, a $10 word for self-poisoning. This condition can literally starve the cells in your body by blocking them from receiving their nutrition, eventually causing severe malnutrition. All the supplements in the world will do nothing for your body if the intestinal system is in a state of disarray. Constipation, irregular bowel movements, irritable bowel syndrome, bloating, gas, nutritional deficiencies, and other intestinal related problems are in many cases the result of an intestinal system that has been overloaded and is heading for a complete breakdown.

The good news is that there are many things that you can do to reverse this trend and get back on track to health and wellness. Remember – it’s not God’s will that we suffer from all manner of physical ailments. It’s His will that we walk in health all the days of our life.

Things You Must Do To Detoxify & Support Your Intestinal System

Hopefully by now you understand why it is so crucial to address intestinal health. Here are a few things that can be done to clean out excess wastes, rebuild your system, and maintain a healthy gastrointestinal system.

1. Start taking Probiotics: There are many good probiotic supplements on the market to choose from that can help rebuild your intestinal flora. It is important to first do a cleanse of the intestinal system in order to get the bowels working more consistently if you’re constipated, and to get rid of excess waste so there is fertile ground for the probiotics to colonize.

2. Take Digestive enzymes after each meal: Most people are severely enzyme deficient and aren’t adequately breaking their food down that they eat, causing digestive problems and malnourishment. The best way to get enzymes into the body is to start eating more raw organic fruits and vegetables that contain an abundance of life-giving enzymes. Almost all cooked foods and packaged foods are devoid of enzymes. This puts unwanted stress on the body because it has to use its bank of enzyme reserves to break the food down. In addition, it is important to take a high quality full spectrum enzyme supplement after each meal that helps break down protein, fats, and carbohydrates. Enzyme supplements assist the body in breaking food down more effectively so partially digested foods don’t get stuck in the intestinal system causing weight gain. This is a big reason why people have constipation and intestinal build-up, especially those consuming high meat diets where the food didn’t fully break down.
I recommend eating 1/3 of the diet raw, the enzymes are in there, they are also in:CellPower™.

3. Eat more fermented foods: There are some very beneficial fermented foods such as sauerkraut, organically cultured yogurt, cheese, Kefer, sourdough bread, pickles, Tempeh, and Miso to name a few that can help the body tremendously with digestion. Fermentation is a process that activates the enzymes in food and allows bacteria, yeasts and molds to “predigest” which helps break down the proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. Fermentation dates back thousands of years and was used to extend the life of food and to enhance flavor. It can do amazing things for your overall digestive health. Researchers believe that the longevity of many in the Far East can be attributed to a lot of the fermented foods they eat regularly. Only recently have more in the West taken a closer look at how fermented foods support the intestinal system and the body’s overall health. In some cases certain foods cannot release their nutritional properties unless they are fermented. Soybeans are a great example of this. The only way you should eat soybeans is in a fermented state. Any other form will not be beneficial and could actually be dangerous.

I disagree with this part I wouldn't risk eating any soy for any reason, most of it is genetically modified and is not recognized by the body as real food.

4. Learn more about eating foods in proper combination: Improper food combinations can be linked to many diseases. This is an area where few people know what to do yet it could have a profound impact on your health. For example, you shouldn’t consume proteins and starches at the same time. Fruit should be eaten separately from all other food. Fruits and vegetables should not be eaten together. There’s a statement about melons that you’ve probably heard before: “Eat it alone or leave it alone.” There are some excellent books on the market that can help you in this department. You should visit a health food store or do some research online to help you in this area as it is vitally important if you want your body to be in balance and functioning at a high state of health.

5. Do a complete intestinal cleanse: Seasonal detoxification is something everyone should do in order to rid the body of excessive wastes and keep the digestive system operational. It’s similar to an oil and lube change. If you change your oil every 3,000 miles on your vehicle and keep your transmission and other engine parts properly lubricated, your vehicle should run much better and last a lot longer than it would if you didn’t do this. The human body is no different. We need to periodically cleanse out our wastes. It doesn’t matter if you’re eating the healthiest foods in the world and living your best or if you’ve overloaded your body with unhealthy foods. The fact is we live in a toxic world and unless you eat everything perfect, you probably need to do an intestinal cleanse once in a while. If you are having intestinal related problems (i.e. gas, bloating, cramps, indigestion, acid reflux, etc.) you need to do at least a 30 to 60 day colon cleanse and more frequent maintenance after that. There are many different ways to cleanse your intestinal system. You can use herbs like senna, fiber, psyllium, Aloe, high roughage, colonics, etc. incorporate the cleansing and detoxification recommendations into your health program.

Not only can aloe vera be an antiseptic but also be an anti-inflammatory. In addition, the juice from the plant can increase the white blood cells capability to exterminate yeast cells.
~ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS~
Many Americans have a diet rich in Omega-6 source foods (fried foods, margarine, whole-grain bread, baked goods, and other saturated fats), and low in Omega-3 source foods like fish. Due to these eating habits, the typical American diet contains as much as 20 times more Omega-6 than Omega-3’s. Reducing your intake of Omega-6-rich foods while you increase your consumption of Omega-3-rich foods will further balance the equation.
~OLIVE LEAF EXTRACT
Used since biblical times, Olive Leaf Extract, just from its symbol, gives you a sense of being protected. It is a powerful way to fend off harmful toxins & expedite healing of infections caused from microbes.
~PAU D'ARCO
Also known as lapacho or taheebo. Has an agent that acts as antibacterial, as well as antifungal. Some people may not actually improve from drinking Pau d'arco tea. If that is the case with you, change over to clove tea. Even if Pau d'arco tea does help, it's wise to switch between Pau d'arco and clove tea, anyway. Clove tea will assist in healing different areas than Pau d'arco; Pau d'arco will also act differently than clove.
